In the end of January, a group of Russian LGBT organizations and initiative groups submitted the List of issues related to the situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons and men who have sex with men to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The List of issues was prepared by the coalition of civil society organizations, including Moscow LGBT Initiative Group “Stimul”, NGO “Phoenix PLUS”, Russian LGBT Network, Transgender Legal Defense Project and “Coming Out” LGBT Group.

Queer-Peace, a member of the Russian LGBT Network, has conducted a study on the rights of LGBTQIA people with disabilities. The authors of the study concluded that there are at least 650 000 of gays and lesbians with disabilities in Russia. These people are most often subject to multiple discrimination, both as representatives of LGBT and as physically challenged.

The Ministry of the Interior of the Dagestan Republic reacted to the claim filed by the LGBT activist Alexander Sidorov last month. The response consisted of only one paragraph: “The results of the undertaken investigation do not confirm the facts described in the complaint”.

Alexander Sidorov, an LGBT activist beaten for the organization of the one-person picket in Makhachkala, filed a claim to the General Prosecutor Office. In this claim he requested for the official inspection of the local police officers who detained him and who didn’t react to the fact of beating.

Novosibirsk Regional Court considered a complaint filed by Ltd “Sib-Alliance ”, and confirmed that discriminatory job refusal based on sexual orientation was unlawful. Anna Balash from Novosibirsk tried to get a job at “Sib-Alliance” twice, in October 2015 and February 2016. In both cases she was refused because of her “non-traditional sexual orientation”.

On November 25, the final hearing on the parental rights of a trans* woman Pasha Kaptanovskaya took place in Moscow. Luberetskiy district court considered the claim to identify the mode of communication with a child, and declined to conduct a forensic psychiatric assessment as unnecessary. The assessment was supposed to define whether contacts with Pasha can harm her son.

On November 20th, the Human Rights Council of St. Petersburg issued a statement in support of transgender people, dedicated to Transgender Memorial Day, and called on “governments and civil society to take all possible measures to eradicate crimes and discrimination based on gender identity.”

On November 3, the first Preconference for the representatives of the initiatives for trans* people and independent trans* activists took place in Moscow. 25 trans* activists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Ekaterinburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Perm, Rostov-on-Done and Tyumen participated. The Preconference was organized as a part of the Annual Forum for LGBT Activists with the support of the Russian LGBT Network.

From the 4th to the 7th of November in the Outer Moscow Region, the Second Annual Forum of LGBT Activists, which was organized by the Russian LGBT Network, was held. The Forum gathered around 250 activists from across all Russia and has become the biggest event of its kind in the country. 250 participants, 32 trainers, a few days of hard work, and, of course, a special space where each person can be themself!
